Nothing to do with vampires, werewolves or ghosts, in case you were wondering. Everything to do with being human. Even priests, the fully dog collared upstanding pillars of the parish are human. We get cold, hot (under the collar), happy, sad, exasperated, exhilarated, we shout at our children, dogs and cats now and again. And while we are busy being human, we live alongside others, listening, praying, encouraging, consoling, discerning where God is, sharing the Good News. We try to point out the ways people can find God, and then get out of the way so that God can work.
We’re encouraged to be missional, to preach the Gospel, to transform society, to live sacrificially. We even want to do these things, we work on each and every one of them every day.
But some days, we just need a cup of coffee and a slice of something terribly bad for us. I’m off to our cafe, to indulge in cake, while I listen, pray, console, discern and share the Best News of All Time.
